Jakarta – PT Multi Harapan Utama (MHU), part of MMS Group Indonesia (MMSGI), has once again achieved success by receiving the Tamasya Award (Mining for Community Welfare). This award was part of the culminating event of the 2024 Minerba Expo, organized by the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) through the Directorate General of Minerals and Coal (Ditjen Minerba), which took place at the Kartika Expo Center, Balai Kartini, Jakarta (26/11).

At the event, MHU received the 2024 Tamasya Award for Community Development and Empowerment (PPM) Performance in the Coal Commodity category for large-scale mining (production capacity exceeding 10 million metric tons). The 2024 Tamasya Award was presented directly by Deputy Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Yuliot Tanjung to MHU Director Faiz Firdaus Fauzan, who was present at the event.

According to Yuliot, the Tamasya Award reflects not only contribution and dedication, but also hard work and a passion for continuing to contribute to national development. PPM is an effort to bridge the gap between the mining industry and the needs of communities surrounding mining sites, empowering them in areas such as education, health, social, economic, environmental, institutional, and sustainable infrastructure.

"The mining sector contributed approximately 12% to GDP in 2024, positively impacting economic equality in regions, especially outside Java. Furthermore, it also reduced the Gini ratio, which in the March 2024 survey was 0.379, compared to 0.388 in March 2023," Yuliot explained.

According to Faiz, MHU has collaborated with the community and all stakeholders in carrying out the transformation so that the implementation of PPM can run more optimally to realize sustainable economic independence for the community around its operational area.

"We are very grateful and proud to receive the 2024 Tamasya Award in the Community Development and Empowerment Program category. This award is a clear demonstration of MHU's commitment to making a positive contribution to the communities surrounding our operational areas. We are confident that the synergy between our Good Mining Practices (GMP)-based approach and MHU's commitment to sustainability will continue to bring positive change to the surrounding community and support sustainable economic development," he said.

As part of the company's sustainability initiative, MHU runs various superior community empowerment programs such as the development of Lung Anai Chocolate, Loa Kulu Tempe Chips, Tea Wai Tea, Loh Sumber Rice and several other programs that also involve community collaboration in the area around the operational area, namely the development of economic independence of the Payang Sejahtera Village-Owned Enterprise (BUMDesa) in Sungai Payang, Loa Kulu, Kutai Kartanegara, East Kalimantan has succeeded in achieving a Social Return on Investment (SROI) of up to 5 times, which shows the value of benefits far exceeding the initial investment. These programs not only bring economic benefits, but also foster independence with local wisdom. MHU houses approximately 30 MSMEs and BUMDes which can increase the income of the community around the operational area by up to 7% per year.

The 2024 Tamasya Award is a government appreciation for business entities in the mineral and coal mining sector that have carried out community development and empowerment, contributing to educational, social, cultural, environmental sustainability, and economic improvement activities in areas surrounding mining sites.
